Each week on n8itude.com I will scour the interwebs on the latest developments in the baseball world. Videos, tweets and the occasional audio will accompany my random thoughts and news of the week.
Holy Cow! Tons of trades and big moves this week. The Kansas City Royals sent top prospects Wil Myers and Jake Odorizzi along with two other minor leaguers to the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday night for former All-Star James Shields and fellow right-hander Wade Davis. The Philadelphia Phillies acquired seven-time All-Star Michael Young from the Texas Rangers for Josh Lindblom and minor league righty Lisalverto Bonilla. The deal was announced Sunday, a day after Young agreed to waive his no-trade clause.
Meanwhile the LA Dodgers who were recently bankrupt continue their mad spending roll, this time on a $147 million, six-year deal with free agent right-hander Zack Greinke.
“We were definitely hoping for Zack,” said Magic Johnson, a partner in Guggenheim Baseball Management which bought the team last spring. “Zack is a proven winner. When you put him together with Clayton, man, we feel really good.”
Then the team signed left-hander Ryu Hyun-jin (Ree-YOO He-YUN jin) of South Korea Ryu for $36 million in six-years, making him the first player ever to go directly from the Korean league to the major leagues.
Somehow THIS happened:
Yup, the New York Yankees acquired Kevin ‘Red Sox Favorite’ Yoooooooukilis??!! This is A-Rod’s replacement, and Alex likes the deal.
“Youk has always been a tough out,” Alex Rodriguez said. “He’s a tough player, he’s a guy that’s a winning player. Whatever the franchise wants to do, I think that would be a good move for us.”
The Cleveland Indians, Cincinnati Reds, and Arizona Diamondbacks are on the verge of completing a three-team deal according to multiple reports. The Reds will receive outfielder Shin Soo-Choo and infielder Jason Donald from the Indians, the Indians will get pitcher Trevor Bauer, center fielder Drew Stubbs, relief pitcher Matt Albers, and pitcher Bryan Shaw while the Diamondbacks will receive shortstop Didi Gergorius, relief pitcher Tony Sipp, and first baseman Lars Anderson. The Indians are also expected to send the Reds $3.5 million to compensate in the differences in projected salaries between Choo and Stubbs.
Blue Jays News: Carlos Delgado will be the next honoree for the Blue Jays Level of Excellence. Delgado becomes the 10th person to be honoured with the team award. An on-field ceremony will be held July 21 before Toronto’s game against Tampa Bay.
Pat Hentgen will return as the Jays Bullpen coach after taking a year off. … and oh yeah .. Tom Cheek is going to Hall of Fame! The late-great Jays radio announcer is the 2013 Ford C. Frick award for broadcasting excellence by the Baseball Hall of Fame

A-Rod tore his left hip and will have surgery and will miss 4-6 MONTHS of the 2013 season! Apparently he hurt it before the playoffs, and this was reason why he sucked eggs in the playoffs. The Yankees are gonna need to replace him and 3B seems to be the priority at the winter meetings for Steinbrenner’s legacy.
Toronto is still buzzing with the “New Jays” trade and signings, and we finally heard from our 2 newest starters:
Photo: It’s the New Blue Jays, in Uniforms!
Jays - Marlins blockbuster trade!! Franchise changing!! Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle with Ricky Ro!!
Yunel and Adeiny gone, no like .. Jose Reyes well that’s a nice replacement!
New Beast in the East
The Blue Jays could trade catcher JP Arencibia or some of their depth at starting pitcher, but even if they don’t make another move during the offseason they look formidable going into next season. Here is a look at their potential 2013 opening day lineup and starting rotation:
SS - Jose Reyes
CF - Colby Rasmus or Emilio Bonifacio
RF - Jose Bautista
DH - Edwin Encarnacion
1B - Adam Lind
3B - Brett Lawrie
C - Travis d’Arnaud or John Buck
LF - Rajai Davis
2B - Maicer IzturisRotation:
Josh Johnson, RHP
Mark Buehrle, LHP
Brandon Morrow, RHP
Ricky Romero, LHP
Kyle Drabek (RHP)/Drew Hutchinson (RHP)/JA Happ (LHP)/Aaron Laffey (LHP)The Blue Jays still need to hire a new manager, but whoever gets the call (Manny Acta? Sandy Alomar Jr.? Dave Martinez?) is going to have a beast of a team. Somewhere John Farrell and Tito Francona are kicking themselves.
Meanwhile the Yankees may want to rethink their plans to lower payroll below the luxury tax line, and the Red Sox just became the red-headed stepchild of the division.

Oh my gawd look at that rotation! Remember what happened last time we had a blockbuster!!

The new Nuggets alternate jerseys.
Lunchbox 45 Travis Snider may have left T.O., but that won’t stop me from rooting for my favorite Jays #1 potential prospect of the 2010s. I mean I still mark out for Halladay…
As a Pirate … umm insert dumb sports anchor cliche about stolen treasure or loot or something. Basically Trav goes up the fence and miraculously takes a homerun away.
GIFS!!!

On this day in 1974, Angels hurler Nolan Ryan struck out 15 batters and gave up zero hits in a 4-0 victory over the Twins. It was the third of Ryan’s seven career no-hitters. (John Iacono/SI)
SI VAULT: Ryan hits 100.8 mph, fastest ever recorded for a pitcher (9.16.74)
BOSS NOLAN!! DON’T LET ME GET INTO MY ZONE!!!
PHOTO of the DAY: This picture pretty much sums up the Toronto Blue Jays season.
